During the first six months of the project, the International Energy Research Centre, supported by members of the consortium, has carried out a review of the smart energy services market in commercially rented buildings. In the upcoming months, this analysis will be supported by the additional input from the first stakeholder survey (still online) and stakeholders’ interviews planned for March 2022, that will identify barriers and drivers influencing actions of stakeholders.
Through a desktop analysis of the Smart Energy Services (SES) market and the flexibility markets, the market readiness of these services as well as the attitudes and perception of key stakeholders are being evaluated. In addition, the results of previous and ongoing projects that can be incorporated into SmartSPIN – such as NOVICE, SENSEI, GuarantEE, LAUNCH, AmBIENce or LEMON – are being examined.
The results will confirm the known barriers, highlight any other barriers that have not been considered so far, and allow a first indication of the market’s level of acceptance for the SmartSPIN concept. As a result, a list of recommendations for the development of the SmartSPIN business model will be drawn. The final results will be published in August 2022.
Market and revenue stream mapping
A mapping exercise is being carried out to determine the existing maturity of the market for SES in each of the countries represented in the consortium (Greece, Ireland, The Netherland and Spain). In addition, this task is also evaluating the potential revenue streams and value creators that could be included in a SES contract across different types of buildings.
SmartSPIN consortium is reviewing ESCO/SES market of Spain, the Netherlands and Greece.
Review of policies supporting smart energy services
Policies and regulations from each of the countries represented in the consortium that either drive or hold back deployment of innovative energy services models in tenanted commercial buildings are being examined. Policies from Greece, Ireland, Netherland and Spain have been reviewed.
Best practice examples from other countries that are not represented in the consortium will also be identified. The aim of this task is to find out how the SmartSPIN service delivery can be supported with the existing policies.
Recommendations for the SmartSPIN Service
All the previous results will be gathered to identify the gaps between the requirements of key stakeholders in the energy efficiency value chain, the existing energy services and performance based offers currently in the market. The recommendations will be drawn together for any amendments that would enhance the SmartSPIN Service. This will allow to modify and adjust the service offers accordingly before testing the proposed SmartSPIN business model.
